Today’s word prompt is ‘tardigrade,’ the resilient little creature that’s captured both science and imagination.
Known as the “water bear,” tardigrades are the ultimate survivors—thriving in extremes that would undo nearly any other life form. Their quiet strength and persistence inspired this poem, a celebration of their tiny yet remarkable existence.
If you’re curious about these fascinating creatures, you can learn more about tardigrades here.
Oh, tiny wanderer,
bear of the moss,
drifting through droplets
like an ancient mariner.
You wear your resilience
like a crown—
the king of survival,
unshaken by
the boiling sun,
the frozen void,
the crushing weight of oceans.
We could learn from you,
tardigrade—
your gentle persistence,
your quiet strength.
To adapt, to endure,
to live fully
even in the smallest spaces.
You remind us:
it’s not size
that defines greatness,
but the courage
to keep moving forward,
one microscopic step at a time.
