Laughter at Noon, Naps by Three

Today’s word prompt was “train,” and with it, I found a fitting metaphor for this special day.

Being both Thanksgiving and my birthday, this poem became a celebration of gratitude, self-reflection, and joy—a whimsical journey on the tracks of self-celebration.

The poem mixes lighthearted imagery (a turkey conductor!) with deeper themes of cherishing moments, savoring solitude, and appreciating life’s simple gifts. Whether you’re celebrating with others or riding solo on your own “train,” I hope this piece brings you a little smile and warmth.

A turkey waddles aboard,
gravy ladle in wing,
announcing, “Today’s schedule:
laughter at noon, naps by three,
and cake just because!”

This train doesn’t mind quiet passengers.
It hums on tracks of self-celebration,
the rhythm of wheels echoing—
you’re here, you’re here, you’re here!

Confetti bursts from the smokestack;
balloons rise with helium cheer.
Every car carries a gift:
a memory of sunrise,
a sunset waiting to unfold.

So, let’s toot the whistle
and gobble the feast,
because today’s journey,
though solo, is sweet.

Choo-choo, happy birthday, me!
And Thanksgiving?
You’re invited for dessert.
