Toast and Justice

What happens when toast thieves target the wrong house? A crafty spouse with a flair for over-the-top inventions turns breakfast into a battle!

Inspired by the prompt phrase “The perks of having a crafty spouse,” you’ll quickly learn that when creativity meets chaos, the result is a wild mix of resourcefulness, humor, and a touch of absurdity—just the way life should be.

When Marvin woke to find their toaster stolen—again—he groaned. “Jill! They took it!”

Jill was in the garage, welding knives to a stand mixer. “Relax. Tonight, the toast thieves meet their match.”

That night, the thieves returned—two figures in ski masks, one carrying a crowbar and the other nervously clutching a sack labeled “Loot.”

“Are you sure about this?” whispered the smaller one. “We barely escaped last time.”

“Stick to the plan!” snapped the tall one. “The espresso machine is worth it.”

Jill crouched behind her invention, a towering monstrosity of whisks, rolling pins, and duct tape. As one thief tripped over a stray banana peel, she hit the lever.

WHAM!! A baguette rocketed across the room, knocking the tall thief into the pantry. Jill hit another button, unleashing a cloud of powdered sugar that blinded his partner. “It’s everywhere!” he screeched, flailing wildly.

The thieves scrambled for the door, only to be caught in a web of spaghetti noodles Jill had rigged with a hairdryer. “I hate carbs!” yelled the tall one as he struggled to free himself.

Marvin entered, rubbing his eyes. “What’s all the—” He stopped, staring at the chaos: bagels embedded in the walls, flour coating the floor, and the shorter thief dangling from the chandelier in a net made of licorice ropes.

Jill smirked, holding a croissant aloft like a trophy. “See? The perks of having a crafty spouse.”

Marvin picked up a cinnamon roll from the debris. “Breakfast and a security system. Genius.”
